Why I love to paint portraits..

There's something timeless about portraiture. You're meeting a presence. I often paint women because that’s where my energy naturally flows. Especially women of color.

Growing up I rarely saw images of people who looked like me in the art I came across. That absence stuck with me. Now I paint what I once missed. Not to make a statement but to make space.

Color plays a big role in my work. It carries energy in a way words can’t. It shifts how you feel. I used to paint in black and white, but when I allowed color in, everything opened up. It gave my work life.

I paint because it grounds me. Because it gives shape to things I can't always explain and because I believe art has the power to remind people that they matter.
